PERMISSIONS

CHARACTER NAME: Yusuke Urameshi
CHARACTER SERIES: Yu Yu Hakusho

[OOC]

Backtagging: Always for it! I have a busy work schedule myself, so I can be late to getting around to tags.
Threadhopping: Sure! Obviously contact/plot with me if the threads get too complicated, though.
Fourthwalling: Considering YYH does it on occasion, I'd say go for it! Yusuke may even roll with it.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): Nothing I can think of at the moment? Will update should anything come to mind, though!

[IC]

Hugging this character: Go for it! Considering who you are/what relationship you have with him, he may either squirm out of your grip or return it in full. (Or maybe even be the one to hug you himself)
Kissing this character: I'm cool with it for crack/CR reasons! However, unless you're, like-- Keiko, it's probably going to break his brain a bit.
Flirting with this character: Also if... you want...? He's pretty dense when it comes to romance, though, so unless you're extremely obvious, he's not going to pick up what you're doing.
Fighting with this character:

... no but serious, FIGHT THIS ASSHOLE, he will take you on regardless of age or gender!! Although he'll probably only go all-out with someone who either matches his power or provides a real threat.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Anything and everything! A bit of plotting beforehand would be good for more serious injuries, though.
Killing this character: ... he's died like twice in canon already, A THIRD TIME WILL BE NOTHING NEW. However, please contact me if you plan to do so!
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go ahead! You're not going to get much aside from straight-forward thoughts, unfortunately.

Yusuke's powers, in the simplest sense, involve using and manipulating his stored spirit (or demon) energy in various ways.

Spirit Gun- His signature attack, which channels his spirit energy to the tip of his index finger (though it's been implied he can fire it from other fingers too), and then releases it in a blast of sheer power. The size and power of the shot can be controlled to an extent, although it can be very huge and deadly if Yusuke's feeling particularly upset or determined. The weakest of shots can be used as a boost or a punch, while the strongest can be almost atomic in destruction. His 'ammo' used to be limited to a few shots a day, but after his increased power, he can fire unlimited bullets until he exhausts his energy. He can also use his demonic energy as 'ammo' instead, which packs a greater punch (if such a thing was even possible.) However, it's not unbeatable-- against an equally strong blast, it can scatter and cancel out, and Yusuke's emotions sometimes can screw with his aim or how much he wants to fire.

Shotgun- A multiple target version of the Spirit Gun, except the attack power is weaker and he channels it through his fist instead of his finger.

Spirit Wave- In essence, it's another variation of the Spirit Gun; however, instead of using his finger to channel the energy, he uses his whole body as a weapon. It's an incredibly useful close range attack, but it's risky to use, and dangerous for both him and his opponent. It's also shown to have healing abilities on the user as well, as it patched up the gunshot wounds Sensui inflicted upon Yusuke during their fight.

Demon Form- Canon doesn't really explain how this ability is triggered all that well, but thanks to Yusuke's demonic heritage, if he's feeling particularly angry or pushed to his normal limits, his body undergoes a transformation. In most instances, it's usually the appearance of dark blue tribal markings upon his skin, along with more defined fangs and muscles. However, when Raizen took control over his body, his hair also grew to a much longer length and he went into a berserker mode, so it's unclear if those extended changes were due to channeling Raizen or if it's a layer of Yusuke's powers that have yet to be breached. His power and speed greatly increase due to the change, giving him a serious edge in battle, although outside of Raizen's meddling, it seems to only be used in situations where Yusuke's normal powers are not quite enough.

Aside from those, he's also stupidly strong. He doesn't follow a particular fighting style (it's a mash-up of mixed martial arts and street fighting techniques), and he moves purely on instinct and single-minded aggression, but his strength more than makes up for it. His punches and kicks can deliver some serious damage, causing outright shockwaves at 30% of his power before his demon blood awakened. He ranks as an S-Class demon (on the scale of D to S), which are said to have been revered as gods in the past and have the power to destroy whole cities if they wished, although Yusuke isn't the type to unleash that sort of power upon others or use it to take advantage of weaker people (unless they really, really asked for it.)

Lastly, his stamina and speed are absolutely ridiculous-- like run for almost a week straight without stopping and fighting an opponent for 60 hours ridiculous. His powers also seem to get stronger given how angry or desperate he is, so trying to break his spirit or threatening to harm a love one as a means to win (like when Suzaku hunted down Botan and Keiko and when Toguro 'killed' Kuwabara) will mostly wind up with him tapping into new reserves out of rage and punching that person in the face. And while not an ability, it's important to note that due to his dormant demon blood awakening, his heart doesn't beat like a normal human being's anymore, so anyone trying to find a pulse on him will be in for a nasty shock.

There's some more detailed descriptions/one-off moves listed here!

Character Info

◎ Character's Name: Yusuke Urameshi
◎ Character's Canon: Yu Yu Hakusho
◎ Character's Age: 18
◎ Canon Point: Right before meeting up with everyone on Genkai's beach in episode 112
◎ Background/History: YYH Wiki!
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Not a hacker by any means, but he has a fairly powerful sixth sense! Comes with the package of being a (former) ghost, a (former) Spirit Detective and a half-demon, although it's nowhere near as strong as Kuwabara's or Genkai's.

◎ Personality:

At first glance, you'd be hard-pressed to find any good qualities about Yusuke Urameshi.

He's a smart-mouthed, street-wise brat, who doesn't take no for an answer and flips off authority in it's face when he can, skipping school and dodging detention left and right. He's brash and loud, crude and impatient, reckless and violent, not afraid to intimidate people to get his point across. He hates to be misunderstood, getting angry when people use him as an excuse or scapegoat for their own means, although he doesn't do a very good job trying to change their opinions, either. He's more the type to try to fix a problem with his fist instead of his head (although headbutting usually helps in a pinch), getting into countless brawls and earning him the reputation of the strongest student at his school. He's painfully honest with a sarcastic tongue, pointing out things that rather be left unsaid and ribbing people on it. He can be a stubborn brat when he's pushed enough, shoving aside maturity in favor for what he wants to do instead and striking out on his own if he gets angry, like refusing to look for his friend Kuwabara when he went missing due to an earlier arguement. Throw in a fiery temper and a cocky attitude, and you got a package for a straight-up punk.

However, despite all of that, he's actually a kind and protective person once you get to know him, and it's not really that hard to see once you get past his Teen Delinquent exterior. He has a sort of straightforward charm that attracts people to his side (the surly thief Hiei being a significant example), getting even demonic kings bent on domination to reconsider their plans and enjoy a good spar with him. Yusuke's rather morally gray, due to his experiences, refusing to lump anything in a squarely 'good' or 'bad' category. (This winds up being a reason Koenma, head of the Spirit World, decides to make him a Spirit Detective to begin with.) He can have an almost childlike enthusiasm in the odd occasions he gets excited for something (like his fight with the wind demon Jin), and he gets along surprisingly well with children, due to his jokey, mischievous nature himself. It only really takes finding some common ground with him-- most of the time it's fighting--to see the heart of gold within, and once he's deemed you a friend, he'll have your back for life.

On the subject of fighting, Yusuke is a huge combat junkie-- street brawls, spars with friends or rivals, life-or-death matches, if it involves fists to the face, he is THERE. As Genkai quotes in the dub, "If Yusuke wasn't in constant danger, he'd die of boredom". He doesn't discriminate between opponents very much (during a rescue mission to save Hiei's sister, Yukina, he had no issues going against a female fighter, because "she's a fighter and she wants to fight!"), though he won't pick a fight someone who's drastically weaker than him, unless they piss him off to the point where they really ask for it. He also has an aversion to killing others, if he can help it, not wanting to end another person's life in the chance that they may fight again on better terms.

A lot of his bad behavior and anger stem from a neglectful childhood with a young, alcoholic mother, an absent (and implied to be abusive) father, and a slew of judgmental teachers and peers. It fostered a general anti-social attitude within him, refusing to trust others around him with his problems and shouldering most of his burdens on his own. At the beginning of the series, he's very bitter and jaded, convinced that the people who have been trying to help him (like his childhood friend Keiko and his guidance counselor, Takenaka) are mostly looking out for themselves instead. However, he's not cold enough to ignore a small child playing near the side of the road, and takes it upon himself to entertain the boy to keep him from getting into an accident, satisfied to know that he's still good at making children happy, at least.

Unfortunately, the kid winds up chasing his ball into traffic once Yusuke starts to leave, and without a second thought to his own life and people he may leave behind, Yusuke dives in front of the car to push the boy out of the way, taking the brunt of the damage and dying due to the injuries. The Spirit World (basically the bureaucratic afterlife) felt this was wildly out of character for Yusuke and didn't expect his demise to be as such, so they offer him a chance to return back to life. Yusuke initially refuses, as he assumes everyone would be happier off with him dead, even stating his mother may keep a boyfriend without him around. It takes being dragged to his own wake by Botan (a very atypical Grim Reaper) and watching how broken up some people were over his passing (including Keiko, his constant rival Kuwabara, Takenaka, and most importantly, his mother) to drive the point home that he was important to others, and thus convincing him to undergo the trials to return to life.

During these trials, he slowly begins to appreciate the small things about life and the people he knew, like gaining respect for Kuwabara after seeing his loyal and kind-hearted side, and finding out how much faith Keiko had in him after trying to send a message from the other side to let her know he was returning to life. He even tossed his supposed chance of revival (in the form of an egg that fed off of his good deeds) into a house fire in an effort to save Keiko when she was trying to rescue his still-soulless body, claiming that being alive again wouldn't be worth it if she was dead. Once he's finally brought back to the world of the living (via a princess-like kiss from Keiko), he has a renewed outlook and zest on life, much more appreciative of the people around him.

However, Yusuke’s emotional baggage from before his death, like most baggage of that nature, isn't magically cured, and it plagues him throughout the series in various ways. He's thrilled to learn he could be useful as a Spirit Detective to Koenma, the ruler of the Spirit World, after he gets revived (because not many people had thought he WAS useful prior to this), but soon becomes sullen and grouchy again once it becomes obvious that he’s not good at it right away and he actually has to work hard at it instead of resting on his laurels as a good fighter. Genkai mentions the same during his training and elsewhere in the series– that he never gives anything his all because he’s too burdened with crap and winds up afraid that things won’t work out, so he doesn’t bother. Some of that fear could be the subconscious hang-ups from his childhood, the feeling that there’s no use yearning for something you can't have, since it’ll inevitably disappoint you in the end. (Or, as his mother puts it, 'crying at the moon') His self worth is also pretty awful, despite the cocky attitude he puts on– he calls himself stupid quite a bit (though should anyone else call him that, he’d punch them in the face) and tears himself up emotionally when he’s not as strong as he wants to be, getting frustrated with himself when he's unable to save Genkai or Kuwabara at the hands of Toguro. Yusuke has bad habit of repressing emotions and situations he doesn't want to deal with, the main example being lying about Genkai's death to Kuwabara because he didn't want to admit to himself that she was gone. He has a tendency of putting his life at risk in order for more ‘worthier’ people to be survive: the child with the ball, Keiko on multiple occasions (even claiming there’s no point for him to live if she’s dead), the former demon thief Kurama, the entirety of his team when fighting the former Spirit Detective Sensui… he doesn’t exactly stop to think of how others would take his death, because he feels his life is inconsequential compared to theirs. He also never bothers to inform people (like Keiko or his mother, Atsuko) of his activities and whereabouts, because he still operates under the assumption that people don’t care too much about where he goes and what he happens to do.

This isn’t to say that Yusuke hasn’t benefited emotionally from his experiences as a Spirit Detective, however. There were numerous ‘walls’ within himself that were constructed to block out the less than pleasant things in his life, and most of them wind up being knocked down throughout the course of the series thanks to the numerous friends and support he gains. His fight with the Saint Beast Suzaku makes him realize that he has to live up to the standards of the people who depend on him, and his match with Team Ichigaki in the Dark Tournament pushes him to be more compassionate once he's seen the extent Kuwabara goes to save the brainwashed fighters. His Spirit Orb ordeal forces him to see that he needs to be kinder to himself as a person, after seeing how much pain and suffering he's caused his Spirit Beast (the result of the egg from his ghost trials, which is a reflection of his soul). The most important wall, however, is brought down at the supposed death of his friend Kuwabara, making him acutely aware that people will go to great lengths to see him do his best, and that committing himself to JUST his friends wasn't enough.

By the time he fights Sensui, most of his walls are down and he’s fighting out of pride, to the point that he didn't care what happened to the world, as long as he proved himself to the other man. He has period of self-doubt about his humanity once he's revived again as a demon (despite his loud declaration that he was still the same asshole he always was, mixed blood or not), but after spending time in the Demon World with the long lost branch of his family, he begins to embrace who he truly is. Once he fights the demon king Yomi in a match to determine the next ruler of Demon World, he comes to the startling conclusion that a lot of the anger and resentment that fueled him in the past, that drove him to fight… is now gone. He has what he hadn't had before-- people who love him, who would support him to the ends of the earth, whom he can keep safe with his own two hands… he has a true family now, one that he will fight to the bitter end to protect.

He starts as a lonely kid who came from an awful upbringing and suffered a ton of emotional weight, and yet comes out strong in the end, with a close-knit circle of friends, not exactly solving his issues but growing to accept them for what they are and finding a way around them the best he can.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: Fire! It's perfect for him in a number of ways-- he's hot-headed, his abilities can blow things apart... plus, his Spirit Beast takes the shape of a Phoenix, the very bird of flame itself. Fire can also stand for passion, energy, and power, three things Yusuke has in spades. (The fact he also has an image song named 'FIRE' helps too.)
◎ Sense: Touch! Yusuke's a fighting genius, according to Genkai, so he relies heavily on his sense of touch to gauge how hard he's hitting an opponent, or what sort of damage is being inflicted upon him. He's also a fairly physical sort of person, being the type to slap someone on the back or sling his arm over their shoulder, or poke a butt without a second thought.
◎ Seven Character Traits: + (straight-forward, dauntless, passionate) | - (stubborn, impatient, cocky) +/- audacious

Samples

◎ First-Person Sample: Some TDM threads!

◎ Third-Person Sample:

"C'mon, guys, hustle it a little! I moved better than this when I was dead, and I didn't even HAVE a body!"

The quip was followed by a swift kick to the head, making a satisfying crunching noise as the foot connected and sank into the zombie's rotting face. The creature quickly crumpled to the ground, twitching a couple of times before dissolving back into code. Maybe it was a bit ridiculous to goad on what were essentially programmed dummies, but it got Yusuke into the mood for fighting.

And boy, was he ever itching for a good brawl right now. Sometimes, it was better to punch something than dwell upon it, and there were a lot of things he'd rather not dwell upon lately. Things like returning home after three years in another realm to see his friends and loved ones again, to only find out that the world got a nasty case of being invaded and destroyed. Something that maybe, possibly, he could have helped prevent if he were still in the Human Realm and not caught up in finding himself, but how was he to know that Koenma didn't have a back-up plan for these sorts of scenarios? At least this issue was fixable, if those CERES folks were to be trusted, so what was another stretch of time after all those years he spent away?

It didn't mean it wasn't frustrating as all hell, though.

At least this place, this city-slash-colony-slash... whatever it was, had some good outlets to get this steam out. Admittedly, getting uploaded into one of those ViViD games cropped up a lot of memories of his encounter with Gamemaster and that stupid Goblin City thing, but so far, the games didn't seem to be nearly as bad in comparison. His powers still worked the way they should, and while he didn't get quite the same satisfaction from this virtual experience as he did from the real thing (the lack of pain from his injuries sort of sucked the adrenaline thrill from it), it was good enough for now.

But man, zombies, real OR digital, were such pains in the ass to fight.

They were slow, shambling, not very strong, and had the lamest attacks. The only thing they had going for them were numbers, and it was fairly easy to put a dent in their group with a good Shotgun or two. But after barreling through a number of other games with ease-- a new experience for Yusuke, given how awful he usually was with these kinds of things-- it was better maybe to take his time with this one. It wasn't as if he was losing money by doing this-- quite the opposite, really-- not to mention the necromancer boss was supposedly tougher than some of the other bosses from the previous games, too.

After a few more kicks and an over-the-shoulder throw that knocked down a line of zombies like a bunch of dominos, Yusuke paused to take a quick breath. Just how long has he been at this, anyway? He started game-hopping around 3pm, and it was currently 8pm... the next day. Whoops. Not that he hadn't managed for longer without sleep or food, but maybe this was a cue for him to start wrapping this up.

A smirk starts to play at the edge of his lips as he shifts his weight to his other foot, the glow in his index finger growing brighter by the second.

"Sorry guys. It's been fun and all, but you know what they say about going out with a bang."

CHARACTER INFO
Name: Yusuke Urameshi
Canon: Yu Yu Hakusho (post-Dark Tournament/pre-Chapter Black)
Age: 14
Appearance: Awwww yeeeeah artbook images-- but basically, he's somewhere around 5'6-5'8, lean, with brown eyes and short black hair nearly ALWAYS slicked back into the classic Japanese delinquent pompadour (though he looks like an entirely different character when it's down)
Dorm Room: Grindcore 2E
STAND INFO
Name: Teen Spirit
Power: Teen Spirit has the power of density manipulation! It can alter how tightly or how loosely an object's particles are packed together, while retaining it's regular volume and shape. Some of the things it can do is make particles loose enough to pass through something, float in the air or become nearly invisible (much like a spirit, eeeeyyy), weaken the strength of an object, briefly solidify the air for a barrier, and fortify body parts to make them heavier and harder hitting. The downside, however, is that it has a limited range (only up to three meters), and Teen Spirit has to have some form of contact with the affected object in order to work. It also has a cap on the number of objects affected, going up to four before bumping out the first thing that Teen Spirit was applied to, with anything applied to living beings counting as two things instead of one. Yusuke can share some of the abilities with others without direct Stand contact as well by grabbing onto them while Teen Spirit is directly affecting himself, such as getting someone to pass through something with him, or strengthening their skin so they won't get hurt. Teen Spirit has the potential to be VERY strong and VERY terrifying in certain applications (passing a limb through someone's body and then solidifying it, anyone?), but since Yusuke's awful with science and largely unaware of the vast abilities of it on his own, he's mostly going to be falling through things or accidentally breaking things with his really dense fists until he gets some proper practice with his stand (and even then, he'll mostly think of it as making things heavier or lighter because it's simpler)
Appearance: It's a small, round, blue mechanical-looking baby penguin, with large, floppy ears, a fluffy patch of black 'hair', and nubby little hands! Basically, it's his Spirit Beast Puu, except with solid brown glassy eyes and robotic seams tracing along it's body, some looking akin to the markings on Mazoku Yusuke.
